17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer registered his first clay-court title win in three years after defeating his Uruguayan opponent Pablo Cuevas in the Istanbul Open final on Sunday.
The Swiss maestro overcame a resilient display from Cuevas, who held a set-point tie-break in the second set, as he recorded the 85th title of his professional career with a 6-3 7-6 (13-11) win over the Uruguayan.
Reflecting on his performance, Federer said that it has been a while since he won a title on clay, adding that it has been a pleasure playing there, the BBC reported.
Elsewhere, Richard Gasquet of France beat Australian Nick Kyrgios 6-3 6-2 to win the Estoril Open in Portugal.
