Swiss tennis ace Roger Federer was knocked out of the ongoing US Open in the fourth round for the first time in a decade after a surprise defeat by 19th-seeded Tommy Robredo of Spain.

According to CBS News, the 7-6 (3), 6-3, 6-4 loss to Robredo tops a rough Grand Slam campaign of Federer, who has won a record 17 major championships including five at the Flushing Meadows.

The report further said that with the defeat by Robredo, Federer has had two consecutive losses before the quarterfinals at majors.

According to the report, the former world No.1 was knocked out of the semifinals at the Australian Open in January, the quarterfinals at the French Open and the second round of Wimbledon, against a player ranked 116th, in late June.

That ended Federer's record run of reaching at least the quarterfinals at 36 consecutive Grand Slam tournaments, the report added.
