Swiss tennis ace Roger Federer has reportedly given a tennis masterclass by defeating Australian Marinko Matosevic under an hour during his Brisbane International quarter-final on Friday, for the loss of just two games.

The top-seeded Federer, who demolished an outclassed Matosevic in an imperious 57-minute 6-1, 6-1 win, booked a semi-final against France's Jeremy Chardy, who had earlier downed another Australian, wildcard Sam Groth, 7-5, 6-4.

According to Sport24, although the unheralded Matosevic actually started the better of the two, quickly opening up three break points on Federer's opening serve, the 17-time Major champion, who is playing in Brisbane for the first time in his career, raced away to a 5-0 lead and eased away against an increasingly demoralised opponent.

The second semi-final will be between second seed Kei Nishikori of Japan, who outlasted Croatian Marin Cilic 6-4, 5-7, 6-2, and crowd favourite Lleyton Hewitt, who beat Romanian qualifier Marius Copil 6-4, 6-2, the report added.
