Roger Federer has slammed Nick Kyrgios for his infamous on-court sledging and called on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) to 'come down hard' against the controversial Australian tennis star.

The 20-year-old was fined 6,400 pounds for making a derogatory suggestion about Stansilas Wawrinka's girlfriend during their Rogers Cup match last week.

However, 17-time Grand Slam champion Federer maintained that it would be normal if the tour comes down hard on Kyrgios and explains to him that it is not the way forward, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

The Swiss maestro further said that Kyrgios had definitely crossed the line by a long shot, adding that they are not used to kind of talk in the sport of tennis.

Federer also described the controversy as 'not great for the sport', saying that many players have tried to build up and make it a good image.
