Veteran Manchester United player Rio Ferdinand has admitted that his side needs to 'catch up' in Europe following two poor seasons in the Champions League.
According to the Mirror, United went out to Real Madrid in the first knockout round last season, and failed to even make it out of their group the year before.
Accepting that the Premier League champions need to re-establish themselves on the European stage as they have reached three finals in four seasons between 2008 and 2011, and won the competition once, Ferdinand said that the Old Trafford side needs to catch up as they have not won or even managed to get to the finals last season.
Hoping that United improved this year, Ferdinand also said that it however, would be a tough job as there is a high desire for all clubs to get into the later stages of the tournament, because the rewards are high.
