Fiat Chrylser Automobiles India is looking to revive its fortunes with the launch of the new Abarth powered Avventura and the Abarth Punto.

Fiat feels that there is a market for performance-oriented cars in India and has decided to bring its spiced-up cars to India.

Both, the Abarth Punto and the Abarth Avventura, will house a 1.4-litre T-Jet turbocharged petrol unit under the hood that will be mated to a 5-speed manual. The Punto will give 145bhp of power along with a maximum torque of 212Nm. The Abarth Avventura, on the other hand, puts out 140bhp and 210Nm of peak torque.

Both the cars have been priced at Rs 9.95 lakhs (Ex Showroom Delhi). Also, the prices are not introductory for the festive season.

"All these are part of the jigsaw that we are putting together. We understand what is needed for Fiat to be great again in India," said Kevin Flynn, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles India president and managing director.

The Abarth Punto has been designed indigenously and is a 'home-grown, home engineered' product that is targeted at racing enthusiasts. Both the cars are being built at Ranjangaon, Maharashtra. Fiat is also going to manufacture the Jeep at this plant. This shall be the fourth plant outside the US for volume production of Jeep vehicles.

With the two new cars launched today, the present Fiat network is capable of handling the Abarth cars and shall be used to sell and service the products.

Speaking about the future, Kevin talked about an upcoming Fiat product, which shall be cheaper than the present Punto. Also, in the future the Abarth version of the Punto and Avventura may be exported from India. (ANI)
