In a bid to recognize efforts and leadership in the area of water efficiency, the India Industry Water Conclave and the 3rd Edition of FICCI Water Awards was launched by FICCI in association with HSBC here today.
The award giving ceremony was attended by Jyotsna Suri, President, FICCI and Naina Lal Kidwai, Chairperson, FICCI Water Mission amongst others. Some of the award categories were industrial water Use efficiency, community initiatives by the industries and initiatives by NGOs.
The need to emulate and implement good practices in water conservation, management and use in India is a necessity given the fact that industry estimates show that per capita water availability is on a declining trend with a projection that India will move into the category of water stressed state by 2050.
The top three award winners in category of Industrial Water Use Efficiency were bagged by ITC Munger, Ambuja group and Infosys Limited.
Ambuja Cements Ltd and Ultratech Cement Ltd were winners among the category Community initiatives by the Industries.
While congratulating the winners, Dr. Suri said that, "FICCI accords the highest priority to the water sector and hence, it has been working closely to promote water conservation strategies amongst its member companies. Under the leadership of Naina Lal Kidwai, we will seek to bring the industry linkage on water in our dialogue with government and other stakeholders to create a growing understanding of the water risks to industry and society and how we can up the ante in promoting the cause of sustainable water use and management," she added.
The occasion also witnessed the release of the 3rd Edition of FICCI Water Awards Compendium and the FICCI-HSBC Knowledge Paper on 'Water Management in Chemical Industries'.
