The Shiv Sena on Tuesday said that a sedition charge should be filed against former union home minister P. Chidambaram for allegedly making changes in an affidavit, which originally described Ishrat Jahan and her slain aides as LeT operatives.

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut dubbed Chidambaram's action as being 'dangerous for the nation', asking why UPA had tried to keep Ishrat's links with LeT a secret.

"This issue is not only serious, but it is also dangerous for the nation. A terrorist girl has been killed by the police and after the encounter the police are blamed. And today when Headley has put forth the facts, the truth has come out. What was the need for the government to hide it. Whom did he want to help? Were trying to target Narendra Modi on pretext of Ishrat Jahan?," Raut told ANI.

"Then Chidambaram ji says that Afzal Guru's hanging was done in haste. So, all these supporters of Afzal Guru and Ishrat Jahan should face the trial. They should be charged with sedition. Drag them to court and imprison them," he added.

Meanwhile, the Home Ministry is all set to examine files relating to the controversial Ishrat Jahan case after former Home Secretary GK Pillai said that Chidambaram had changed an affidavit.

Taking responsibility for the second affidavit in the Ishrat Jahan case, Chidambaram on Monday said that it was disappointing that the then home secretary G.K. Pillai is distancing himself from it.

Pillai served under then home minister P. Chidambaram in 2009 when the government filed two affidavits in the Ishrat Jahan encounter case.

Ishrat Jahan, who was a resident of Mumbra near Mumbai, was shot dead along with three men on June 15, 2004, by the Gujarat Police in an encounter.
