'Bronze Buckaroo' star Herb Jeffries, the first black singing cowboy in Hollywood, has passed away of heart failure in West Hills, CA at the age of 100.

The African-American singer and actor made his big screen debut with 1937's 'Harlem on the Prairie', and continued to star in movies aimed at black audiences embracing his mixed heritage, Deadline.com reported.

Jeffries was also a part of Duke Ellington orchestras in the 1940's, where the 1941 standard 'Flamingo' made it to the pop-charts' top 20.

The blue-eyed singer was inducted into the Western Performers Hall of Fame at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in 2004.
