The first one-day international between England and Australia had been washed out by rain and was abandoned without a ball having being bowled in Headingley, Leeds on Friday.
According to Sport24, the Headingley ground staff desperately tried to soak up and clear away the water from the covers, while large puddles of water developed on the out-field.
The report further said that after a final inspection, the umpires decided that it was not possible to clear up the ground and have enough time for even a 20 overs-a-side encounter.
The second ODI is set to take place in Manchester on Sunday, with further games scheduled in Birmingham, Cardiff and Southampton, the report added.
