Colombo has said that the conflict over fishing in the Palk Bay and Palk Strait between the Indian and Sri Lankan fishermen will be resolved via dialogue between the fishermen of the two countries since it is a 'humanitarian and a livelihood issue'.

According to ColomboPage, Sri Lanka's External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Mahishini Colonne was quoted, as saying that discussions on the issue are on between the two countries.

She claimed that there were 46 Indian boats in Sri Lankan custody and four Sri Lankan boats in Indian custody, while neither country has currently detained fishermen of the other country.

She also said that Sri Lanka will appoint a new High Commissioner in New Delhi but until the formal appointment, the present High Commissioner Sudarshan Seneviratne will continue.
