Five arrested for attack on African nationals in Chattarpur

The Delhi Police on Sunday arrested five people in connection with the attack on African nationals in Chattarpur area of South Delhi.

A week after the killing of a Congolese man in the national capital that stirred a diplomatic row and instigated violence against Indians in Congo, four attacks on African nationals by the residents in Chattarpur were reported.

The victims claimed the attacks on Thursday night were racially-motivated.

All four victims, including two women, are between 25 to 30 years of age. The women belong to Uganda and South Africa while the men are from Nigeria.

23-year-old Congolese national Masonda Ketada Olivier was beaten to death after a verbal altercation over the hiring of an auto-rickshaw in Vasant Kunj area of south Delhi.

 

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj spoke to Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung yesterday and was assured of swift justice to the guilty.

"I have spoken to Shri Raj Nath Singh ji and Lt Governor Delhi reg attack on African nationals in South Delhi yesterday. They assured me that the culprits will be arrested soon," Swaraj tweeted.
