The Border Security Force (BSF) has organised a five-day 66th All India Police Aquatic and Cross Country Championship 2017 at BSF Chhawla Camp in the national capital.
The event, which has begun today and will run till April 6, will see a total of 595 sports personnel from 27 teams participating in the championship.
Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju attended today's opening ceremony at Rustamji Swimming Pool BSF Camp Chhawla as Chief Guest and formally inaugurated the session in the presence of DG BSF and representatives of various CAPFs and other dignitaries.
Addressing the sportsmen and the gathering, Rijiju said that these competitions would help to find talents and pave the way to compete at higher levels.
The championship will see teams of CAPFs which include Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Border Security Force (BSF), Assam Rifles, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and the National Security Guard (NSG).
Meanwhile, the teams of various state and UT Police organization--namely Andhra Pradesh Police, Chhattisgarh Police, Chandigarh Police, Gujrat Police, Haryana Police, J & K Police, Jharkhand Police, Karnataka Police, Kerala Police, Maharasthra Police, Madhya Pradesh Police, Odisha Police, Punjab Police, Rajasthan Police, Tamil Nadu Police, Telangana Police, Tripura Police, Uttar Pradesh Police, Uttarakhand Police and West Bengal Police---will also feature in the event.
While swimming events will be conducted at Rustamji Swimming pool, cross country competition (10 Kms) will only be held on April 4 at Dronacharya Stadium BSF Camp Chhawla.
The opening day had witnessed a spectacular synchronized and individual diving demonstration.
