Five months after death, Kalam's grave still under 'make-shift' shelter

Five months after the entire nation mourned the sudden demise of former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, his remains which were laid to rest at Pei Karumbu burial ground near his hometown Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu, are still awaiting a proper memorial.

Cats and dogs are seen defecating near the 1.5 acre-site with visitors sneaking through barricades and taking photographs near the grave.

Aerospace and defence journalist Anantha Krishnan has started a Facebook campaign called "Justice4GuruKalam" seeking an appropriate memorial for the people's President.

Bharat Ratna awardee Dr. Kalam passed away on July 27, 2015. He was the 11th President of India.

 

Before becoming the President, Dr. Kalam had spent four decades as a scientist and science administrator, mainly at the DRDO and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
