Italian tennis ace Flavia Pennetta has announced her retirement after winning US Open title by defeating Roberta Vinci in the finals.
Pennetta, who defeated Vinci 7-6 (7-4) 6-2 in a match that lasted for one and a half hours, became the oldest first-time women's grand slam champion at the Flushing Meadows.
Confirming the news, the 33-year-old said that this was the way she wanted to say goodbye, and added that she didn't think of finishing her last match in a better way than this, the Guardian reported.
Jubilant with the feat, Pennetta said that that it was a dream come true and had felt nice to play against a friend in the finals.
