Flood death toll in Odisha rises to 45, 4.8 lakh persons still marooned

Floods brought on by the rising waters of the Mahanadi River in Odisha have so far claimed 45 lives and left a further 4.8 lakh persons marooned in 460 villages of the state.

Reports said overall 32.9 lakh persons have been affected by the deluge.

Reports quoted Deputy Relief Commissioner Prabhat Ranjan Mohapatra, as saying that the delta region of the Mahanadi river system has been primarily affected.

The state weather bureau has predicted more rain in the next 24 hours.

So far, 5,313 villages spread over 23 districts have been ravaged by the floods.
