U.S. President Donald Trump's transition team had warned former national security adviser Michael Flynn about the risks involved in communicating with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

Trump's transition team members had alerted Flynn in November that any conversations with Kislayk were being monitored, a warning issued weeks before the two discussed US sanctions on Russia by phone.

"The head of Trump's national security transition team, Marshal Billingslea ,requested Obama administration officials to provide a classified CIA profile on Kislyak to show to Flynn out of concern that he didn't completely appreciate the Russian ambassador's motives," sources close to Billingslea confirmed to CNN.

Former national security adviser Flynn was forced to resign after reports surfaced that he misled Vice President Mike Pence ,the FBI, about his phone calls with the Russian envoy on December 19,2016

Transcripts of intercepted calls between Flynn and Russian Ambassador to the U.S., Sergey, showed the two had discussed sanctions ahead of Trump's inauguration, when Flynn was part of the transition team.

Flynn conceded in his resignation letter that he had misled the vice-president, who had previously publicly denied that Flynn had discussed sanctions with Envoy.
