A football pitch has been marked out in gardens of Buckingham Palace to host two of the oldest British clubs in a match on October 7.

The pitch was measured out by Wembley's groundsman Tony Stones along with Palace head gardener Mark Lane, who said that "it was quite an exciting prospect as it is something we've never hosted before", Sky News reported.

The Queen has given the go-ahead to the Duke of Cambridge to host the match between Civil Service FC and Polytechnic FC at the 40-acre gardens, to mark the 150th anniversary of the Football Association.

The palace had hosted a boxing match in the mid-1950s, but it is the very first time that a football pitch has been marked out in the palace garden.
