New Delhi, Mar. 26 (ANI): Ford India launched its latest offering, the Ford Figo Aspire Sedan, from its new unit in Sanand, Gujarat, on Thursday.
The new plant in Gujarat will add 240,000 cars and 270,000 engines capacity to Ford's existing capacity, allowing the car company to produce 440,000 cars in an year and more than 6,00,000 engines.
"With today's opening of our new plant in Sanand, we have taken our growth commitment to a new high in India. We are also doubling our manufacturing capacity in India, creating good jobs and serving customers," said Mark Fields, President and CEO, Ford Motor Company.
The company has invested over USD one billion in the two plants in Sanand. The plants, spread over an area of 460 acres, will assemble both cars and engines. It will generate more than 7,500 jobs across tier one suppliers and the value chain.
The Aspire is expected to touch the market later this year. It shall come with a 1.5L TDCi diesel engine and a 1.2L TiVCT petrol engine. It is expected to have a six-speed twin-clutch automatic gearbox from the top end EcoSport petrol. For the first time in a compact car in India, there are side and curtain airbags for an extra level of protection.
"The Ford Figo Aspire was designed to meet the needs of Indian as well as global customers, who look for comfortable compact car, flexible and roomy interiors with features like excellent fuel efficiency and a low cost of ownership," said Nigel Harris, President, Ford India.
Variants of the Aspire shall also be exported to the global markets.
