A forensics expert at Paralympic runner Oscar Pistorius' murder trial has reportedly revealed that the South African athlete's girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp was shot in quick succession as she fell down.

The forensics expert's version is reportedly different from a police ballistics witness who said that there was a short break between the first and second shots.

According to the BBC, although Pistorius has denied killing Steenkamp intentionally in the early hours of Valentine's Day last year, he admitted that he fired rapidly in fear through the bathroom door after he mistook his girlfriend for an intruder.

Forensics expert Roger Dixon, who is also a defense witness, said that Steenkamp had been standing at an angle to the bathroom door and that all four bullets hit her as she fell to the ground.

However, earlier in the trial ballistics expert Captain Christiaan Mangena reportedly revealed that he believed Steenkamp was standing up facing the closed door when she was hit in the right hip, following which she fell back onto a magazine rack next to the toilet before three more bullets were fired at her through the door, one of which missed her.

The prosecution said that Pistorius had deliberately killed the 29 year old model and law graduate after the couple had an argument, and if the paralympic runner is convicted of premeditated murder, he faces 25 years to life in prison, the report added.
