A court in Cairo has dropped the case against former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak for involvement in corruption and killing of protesters during the 2011 uprising against his rule.
The people started cheering in the courtroom after the judge dismissed the charges against Mubarak which relate to the deaths of hundreds of people and corruption in gas exports to Israel, reported the BBC.
In January 2011, large number of Egyptians took to the streets of Cairo to decry the country's poverty, unemployment and repression. Protesters demanded Mubarak to step down, but were met by a fierce and violent government crackdown.
In May this year, Mubarak along with his two sons Gamal and Alaa, was sentenced to three years in prison for embezzlement of public funds.
