Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Thursday said that former Maoists had now become a part of the Trinamool Congress Party (TMC), and added that West Bengal is under the grip of crime.

"Bengal is under the grip of crime. Members of CPM and former Maoists have now become members of TMC and they are repeating the same thing," said Naqvi.

Pal had told a gathering in Krishnanagar, "I will send my boys to their (attackers) homes and ask them to rape their women. If any of our Trinamool men are touched I will ensure that the CPI (M) is finished and ensure that their homes are burnt off."

The statements had led to an outcry against Pal with the National Commission for Women (NCW), along with many other activists and opposition leaders, demanding strict action against the MP for his threats.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Bannerjee had on Tuesday said that strict action will be taken against Pal. The party had also sought a written explanation from Pal within 48 hours.

Pal had yesterday tendered an unconditional apology for his remarks.
