Ali Haider Gilani, the son of former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, arrived in Lahore from Kabul on Wednesday after he was handed over to the Pakistani officials.
Ali Haider, who was kidnapped on May 2, 2013, during an election rally in his hometown Multan, was recovered on Tuesday in a successful operation in Afghanistan.
Addressing the media after his rescue, Ali Haider thanked the Afghan Government and the US forces for their efforts, Dawn reports.
The former prime minister's son added that he was looking forward to being reunited with his family and going back to his normal life.
Pakistan's Ambassador in Kabul, Abrar Hussain, earlier informed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's Advisor on Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz, that the special plane with Ali Haider Gilani on board has taken off from Kabul for Lahore.
The aircraft left for Kabul at 9 a.m. today along with Ali Haider's brother and protocol staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
