Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that he was fortunate to begin the bilateral talks with Australia by the unveiling of Mahatma Gandhi's statue here.

The Prime Minister took to twitter to share his sentiment at the unveiling of the statue.

"Fortunate to begin bilateral visit to Australia by unveiling Gandhi ji's statute in Brisbane," he wrote.

"Touched by enthusiasm of the Indian community! This is a picture at the venue where Gandhi ji's Statue was unveiled," he added, posting a photograph showing hundreds of members of the Indian community present during the ceremony.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi, who is in the Australian city for the two-day long G-20 Summit, unveiled a statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Brisbane's Roma Street Parkland.

The Prime Minister travels to Sydney on Sunday where he will address the Indian diaspora, before visiting Canberra and Melbourne. On November 18, he leaves for Fiji, which is the final leg of his three-nation trip.
