Hurt over being denied a Lok Sabha ticket, senior BJP leader and four-time Member of Parliament Lal Muni Chaubey today announced that he will file his nomination for the election as an independent candidate from Buxar.

"I will give my resignation and file my nomination today. I will fight the elections as an independent," Chaubey said.

He said that he is not against any individual, but questioned the BJP about not specifying the criterion on the basis of which it is handing out tickets to prospective candidates.

"They are not telling the criteria on what basis they are giving ticket," he said.

Chaubey was elected for the first time from Buxar Parliamentary constituency in 1996. He represented the seat continuously till 2009, when he lost to RJD leader Jagadanand Singh by 2,000 votes.

The BJP denied him a ticket this time, bringing in former state health minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey, who hails from Bhagalpur.
