Daily wage labourers in Neelangarai today received free spectacles from M Subramaniam, MLA and former Mayor of Chennai, in the presence of V E Mathiazhagan, Secretary, East Shollinganallur DMK party, and India Vision Institute (IVI) CEO, Vinod Daniel.

A total of 238 spectacles were distributed. The event organized at Suguna Mahal, Neelangarai, follows vision screening of 400 workers conducted by IVI.

Mr. Subramaniam expressed satisfaction at the initiative by IVI. He said,"I am particularly pleased that IVI has chosen to undertake vision screening and free distribution of spectacles to a marginalized section of the society."

"IVI continues our vision screening activities to cover as wide a section of the community - fishermen, school children and the elderly - as possible," Mr. Daniel said.

"The Neelangarai initiative will reach a marginalized community. We have made a beginning and it is hoped we will be able to cover many more communities in the coming days," he noted.

IVI acknowledges the support of Essilor Vision Foundation in providing free spectacles.
