Delhi Divisional Railway Manager Anurag Sachan today said that the Northern Railways has arranged for free tickets for those affected by the floods in Jammu and Kashmir, adding that over 2800 people have returned from Jammu in a train from Udhampur. He also said that as the flood water has been reported to be receding, more such trains are expected.

"We have made arrangements for medicines for the victims; there is a waiting hall where free tickets have been arranged for them. Food arrangements have also been made on the trains," said Sachan.

"There were about 2800 people in the train from Udhampur. This is the first such train that has come from Jammu after the floods, but as the water level is decreasing, we are expecting more trains. Our commercial staff is in touch with the victims and are talking to them. Free tickets are being provided for their respective destinations," he added.

Train services resumed on September 10 between Katra and Udhampur after they were halted due to the deteriorating situation in the state. Incessant rains resulted in mud slides, flash floods and rising of water level in all rivers in Jammu and Kashmir, due to which flood waters and heavy boulders had fallen on the train tracks, which had led to the cancellation of all services on those lines.
