Fresh clashes erupt between IS, Kurdish forces in strategic Syrian town of Kobane

Three days after reports said that the Islamic State (IS) had been driven out of most of the Syrian town of Kobane, fresh clashes have erupted in the town between the Kurdish ground troops and the jihadists.

Kurdish forces were thought to have pushed back the IS militants trying to take over the town, reported the BBC.

Meanwhile, the United States military said that the U.S.-led forces have carried out six air strikes around Kobane on Sunday and Monday.

The new clashes broke as Turkey said it would allow Iraqi Kurdish Peshmerga fighters to cross into Syria to fight IS.

If the group captures Kobane, a strategic town located on the Syrian-Turkish border, it would gain a complete control over a stretch of more than 100 kilometers between Raqqa, Syria and Turkey.
