An unexpected fresh spell of snowfall in Himachal Pradesh left both tourists and local residents surprised.
Temperatures dipped considerably in Dharamsala. Trees, roads, rooftops of houses in mountainous regions were covered with snow.
A tourist from New Delhi, Shyam Sunder, said he was delighted to see snowfall in the region, but added, that commuting had become inconvenient.
The weather department says western disturbances approaching the north might result in harsh weather conditions and plummeting temperatures.
Another tourist, Rejo Singh, said due to unforeseen snowfall, temperatures had dipped further, and people were trying to keep themselves warm.
"Suddenly, it has become very cold. Yesterday night, it started raining along with that it started snowing also. Now everywhere, we can see snow. Before snowfall it was little warm here, now it is cold again," said Singh.
The snowfall in the hilly regions had a direct impact as temperatures plummeted in many states such as Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
In higher altitudes the temperature has even dropped to the sub-zero level.
