Slain Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi's Tripoli compound will be turned into a public park, Tourism Minister Ikram Abdusalam Bash Imam has said.

The six square kilometer Bab al-Aziziya complex once had a swimming pool, sports pitches, senior officials' villas, gardens and an underground bunker.

According to news24, Imam said that they will soon start moving the debris from Bab al-Aziziya and conduct a security scan of the area.

He said that Bab al-Aziziya will be an area of greenery and he hoped that project will start in another two months.

Imam said the families living in Bab al-Aziziya would be moved to new housing after the fasting month of Ramadan, the report added.
