Amid the ongoing suspense over who would formally assume charge as Maharashtra Chief Minister, Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari met Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat here on Saturday.
However, the BJP leader later said that he had gone there to extend Diwali greetings to the RSS chief.
Gadkari had earlier this week ruled himself out of the race and reiterated that he was not in the race for the top post.
The BJP's Maharashtra unit president Devendra Fadanvis continues to be a frontrunner for the Chief Minister's post.
Earlier on Thursday, Fadnavis met Gadkari at his Nagpur residence and reportedly had discussions for about 30 minutes.
The BJP, which won an unprecedented 122 of 288 seats in Maharashtra Assembly polls, is yet to announce its chief ministerial candidate. The BJP has also not made it clear as to which party's support it will take for government formation in Maharashtra.
