Expressing surprise over Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni's decision to retire from Test cricket, former cricketer Anshuman Gaekwad on Tuesday said pressure is always there when you lead as a captain in all the three formats.
"The way that Dhoni has announced his retirement in the middle of the test series with one match still left, it's a surprise," said Gaekwad.
"Pressure is always there and it's more when you lead as a captain in three formats - ODI, test and T20," he added when asked if there was any pressure on Dhoni.
Meanwhile, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Joint Secretary Anurag Thakur said that Dhoni's decision is in the interest of Indian cricket.
"His commitment to ODIs and T20s shows that he will focus on the ICC World Cup 2015 and win the cup again," he added.
Former cricketer Kirti Azad on his part said the new cricketers should be given opportunities so that new ideas can be introduced. He added that middle-order batsman Virat Kohli would prove a better captain for the Indian cricket team.
In a shocking turn of events, Dhoni earlier in the day retired from Test cricket with immediate effect, citing strain of playing all formats. Dhoni's decision came after his side lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to Australia in Melbourne.
