Gandhi ji and the UN Charter share same ideals: PM Modi

On the 70th anniversary of the United Nations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that Mahatma Gandhi's ideals resonate with the UN Charter and the India remains committed to the UN in all their endeavours.

"Greetings to everyone on @UN Day. UN completes 70 years in service of humanity, committed to its goal of making the world a peaceful place. India is at the forefront of various initiatives of the @UN & is committed to doing our best in supporting UN in their endeavours," The Prime Minister tweeted.

He added that in honour of the UN day, the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad will be illuminated just like how the 'iconic' buildings worldwide will be illuminated in blue at night.

 

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said in a message on the eve of UN day that the blue flag of the UN had been a banner of hope for him growing up in wartime Korea

He underlined that seven decades after its founding, the United Nations remains 'a beacon for all humanity'.
