Garry Marshall to turn classic rom-com 'Pretty Woman' into Broadway musical

Garry Marshall has confirmed the on going speculations about turning the classic 1990 rom-com 'Pretty Woman' into a Broadway musical.

The 80-year-old said that the he absolutely enjoyed making the movie first time around and so they have now secured the rights to do a stage adaptation, People Magazine reported.

The veteran writer-producer also revealed that he would be collaborating on the theatrical version with producer Paula Wagner and the author of the original screenplay, J.F. Lawton.

Marshall first received a draft of the original "dramatic and dark" script 25 years ago. But he was asked to lighten up the love story, turning a tale of a scrappy prostitute Vivian (played by Julia Roberts) and a lonely financier (Richard Gere) into a "fairy tale with a happy ending.
