ANI Jakarta [Indonesia]

Adisutjipto International Airport in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, will remain closed on Thursday after a Garuda Indonesia Boeing 737-800 airplane carrying 123 passengers from Jakarta skidded off the runway while landing last night.

"The airport is still closed until further notice. We will move the skipped airplane as soon as possible," The Jakarta Post quoted vice-president of corporate communications at Garuda Indonesia, Benny Butarbutar, as saying.

According to Butarbutar, the accident took place at 7:42 p.m. on Wednesday when the rain was pouring hard. All passengers have been reported safe.

He said the rain made the runway slippery.

In 2007, a Garuda Boeing 737 jet bounced and skidded off the runway at Yogyakarta airport before bursting into flames, killing 21 people.
