Former South African cricketer Gary Kirsten has reportedly ruled himself out from becoming England's new team director.
Kirsten, who is currently in charge of the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League, suggested that he was not ready to return to international cricket.
According to the Independent, Kirsten's decision clears the way for Ashley Giles' claims to take up the job vacated by Andy Flower's resignation last week.
However, the England and Wales Cricket Board's new managing director, Paul Downton, is unlikely to treat Giles' candidature for the succession and is expected to caste a wide net as he heads to the first key appointment of his tenure.
Meanwhile, Tom Moody has indicated that he would be open to an ECB offer, and fellow Australian Mickey Arthur would relish a return to the big stage.
