In an attempt to raise money and awareness for the LGBT community in Russia, matryoshka dolls modeled after openly gay celebs, including Elton John, Stephen Fry, George Michael, Graham Norton and Tom Daley, are being auctioned off on eBay.

The proceeds of the auction of the seven hand-painted nesting dolls will go to the 'The Kaleidoscope Trust' charity that will provide monetary support to those discriminated for their sexuality, Metro.co.uk reported.

'To Russia With Love' event asserted that homophobia is rife in Russia and LGBT people are facing increasingly harsh treatment at the hands of authorities.

The organisers of the auction added that attacks on gay people are rising in the country where homosexuality has been classified as a mental illness since 1999.

In June, a law which bans the promotion of homosexuality to minors caused an international outcry.
