ANI Gilgit [Pakistan-occupied Kashmir]

In yet another human rights violation incident, the Gilgit-Baltistan government has refused parole to Awami Workers Party (AWP) leader and political activist Baba Jan to solemnise his Nikah in Ghizer district in Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Baba Jan, who got engaged with a woman in Geech village lately, had submitted an application for bail on parole for the Nikkah which was scheduled to take place on April 15, the Pakistani media reports.

His family maintains that he has a right to get married on parole and that they had completed all the arrangements for the said Nikkah ceremony.

However, he has been denied the bail.

Several media reports have quoted family as saying that the parole application was sent by the district administration to the home department but nothing was heard from them.

Baba Jan was arrested on the charges of inciting people to violence in 2014 and has been serving a life sentence in the Ghizer jail.
