External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Monday said that Geeta, the speech and hearing impaired Indian woman, has refused to recognise the Mahto family after meeting them.
"Geeta as of now is refusing to recognize her family after meeting them. Geeta says the Mahto family is not hers but because the blood samples have gone we will wait for the DNA test reports," she said.
"To remove all doubts that may arise due to the long time that has passed, we will do the DNA test. No matter if we find her (Geeta's) parents or not, she is a daughter of India and we will take care of her. For now, she is being sent to Indore," she added.
The Mahto family from a small village in Bihar was waiting to be reunited with Geeta who they believe is their long-lost daughter Hira.
Janardhan Mahto had earlier said that they lost Geeta years ago at a carnival in Jalandhar, Punjab.
