George R. R. Martin, author of the source material of 'Game of Thrones' went through an emotional rollercoaster after the series won an Emmy Award in the Outstanding Drama Series category.

Following the win, George told US Weekly that he was feeling buzzed, excited, exhausted and surprised at the same time. Revealing that he wasn't expecting the victory, the novelist said that when in all of the entertainment press, everyone was picking 'Handmaid's Tale', and when 'The Americans' was on a winning streak, bagging one after another award, the novelist thought the award will go to one of those two series.

He added that he was thrilled when GoT won the award. Commenting on the level of competition in the category, George said that GoT was up against a number of amazing series, including 'This Is Us', 'Handmaid's Tale', 'The Americans' and 'Westworld'.

Mentioning that he likes watching series, George said that he had just finished binge-watching the second season of 'Ozark' and being a fiction/fantasy guy, he also loved 'The Expanse' and called it one of the best science fiction shows ever done in the history of television.

The final season of 'Game of Thrones' will premiere in mid-2019.
