Condemning the harsh interrogation program employed by the U.S.' Central Investigative Agency's (CIA) in the aftermath of the 9/11 attack, Afghan President Dr. Ashraf Ghani has said that the programme "violated all accepted norms of human rights in the world."

Ghani termed the report detailing CIA's harsh rendition, detention and interrogation program "shocking" during a press conference on Wednesday and said that there could be no justification for such acts of human torture in the world, reported the BBC.

He also vowed to find out how many Afghans suffered abuse at the U.S. detention centres.

The criticism came as many other world leaders went on record to condemn the techniques used by the agency to interrogate Al Qaeda suspects.

A U.S. Senate report on the programme had said that the harsh techniques did not produce "unique intelligence" that foiled plots. It also accused the agency of misleading the public and politicians about the 2001-2007 programme.

The CIA, on the other hand, has defended its actions by saying that it saved many lives.
