Veteran Manchester United player Ryan Giggs and four of his former United teammates have reportedly agreed on a deal to buy non-league club Salford City.
Giggs, in his 24th season as a player at Old Trafford, is joined by the Neville brothers, Gary and Phil, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt in the deal to purchase the club, which is 11th in the Northern Premier League Division One North, the eighth tier of English league football
According to the BBC, the deal will be completed in the summer, subject to Football Association and Northern Premier League approval, with player-coach Giggs saying that they want to use their football experience and knowledge to nurture young talent.
Gary Neville said that Salford City represents those early years, the commitment, hunger, enthusiasm, desire and spirit of football, adding that there will be no name change, no ground change and management and committee of the club will be run as before.
Phil Neville, now United's first-team coach, said that it is important to safeguard the hard work that is done in the lower leagues while Salford-born Scholes said that although it is going to be a tough venture, but they will be committed to this from the start and have some very exciting plans going forward.
Giggs, who made his 961st appearance for United in the 3-0 victory over Olympiakos on 19 March, is the only one of the six United youth-team graduates, including David Beckham and the above-mentioned four, who came to be known as the Class of 1992, still playing.
Under former manager Sir Alex Ferguson, United won 13 league titles, two Champions League crowns, four FA Cups and four League Cups with at least one of those six graduates in his squad, the report added.
