Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Meenakshi Lekhi on Tuesday expressed her gladness that the culprits in the 2010 Dhaula Kuan gang rape case have been held guilty by the court. She however, underlined the need for expediting the progress of such cases.
"The judicial system has taken a call on the guilt of the culprits. There is feeling of satisfaction that the victim girl has got justice," Lekhi told ANI here.
"And the only thing I can say in these matters that if the process could be expedited that would do the needful. But, at the same time I am very content about the punishment and the culprits being held guilty by the court," she added.
All five accused in the 2010 abduction and gang-rape of a 30-year-old call centre executive in Dhaula Kuan, have been pronounced guilty by a session court in New Delhi.
The Saket district court will hand out the punishment for the accused on October 17.
"All the accused in the case have been convicted, the quantum of punishment will be pronounced on October 17," said lawyer Abdul Salam.
The victim, who hailed from the North-East, was abducted and raped on November 24, 2010. Shamshad alias Khutkan, Usman alias Kale, Shahid alias Chhota Billi, Iqbal alias Bada Billi and Kamruddin are the accused .
