Bioglow is planning to offer its bioengineered "Starlight Avatar" autoluminescent ornamental houseplants to the public at an auction.
Bioglow said that these plants are best viewed in a dark room, after giving the viewer eyes sufficient time to adjust to the light, Cnet reports.
According to the report, the plants have a short lifespan of two to three months.
Molecular biologist Alexander Krichevsky created the first light-producing plants and published his findings in 2010.
Starlight Avatar needs to be kept away from direct sunlight as they grow in a nutrient gel.
The plant can be transferred to a pot once it's outgrown its container, however, about half of them don't survive the transplant, the report added.
