The European Union's antitrust commissioner has said that Google could face a fine of up to 6 billion dollars if it failed to come up with a better proposal to settle a four-year antitrust probe.

The amount estimated accounts for 10 percent of the company's global revenue.

Joaquin Almunia said in a speech that complaints from competitors have given the EU fresh evidence and solid arguments against several aspects of the latest proposals put forward by Google, The Verge reports.

Almunia added that the EU had notified Google about its concerns and was now waiting for the company's response.
