Google is reportedly taking a stake in a Silicon Valley-based robotics company Savioke.

While the company is yet to launch its first product, it has attracted funds already.

According to the BBC News, Savioke's work may be under wraps, but it has announced plans to begin customer trials of a service industry-targeted machine this year.

Savioke chief executive, Steve Cousins, who previously helped launch the PR2 robot, said that the company has decided that it is time for robots to become available widely in the service industry.

He added that it was not ready to disclose what it was going to be doing, but the company believes the technology is ripe and this industry is largely untapped.

Meanwhile, Google has reportedly acquired eight other robotics companies outright over the past year, the report added.
