Google says employees hired on 'cognitive ability' not IQ

ANI Sydney

Google has reportedly said that the company only looks for certain qualities in a person while hiring.

Laszlo Bock, the senior vice president of people operations for Google said that there were five hiring attributes the company looks for, adding that if it's a technical role, the company assesses your coding ability, and half the roles in Google are technical roles.

Block further said that for every job, the No. 1 thing that the company looks for is general cognitive ability, and not IQ, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

While the second quality that the company sought was emergent leadership, the sense of responsibility, the sense of ownership, to step in to try to solve any problem and humility to step back and embrace the better ideas of others was described as the remaining three qualities.
