Republican National Committee spokesman Sean Spicer said that he "respectably disagrees" with recent comments by former GOP Sen. Bob Dole that his party has shift too far from its traditional values, saying the party is healthy and relevant.
Dole, a former Senate majority leader who left politics after a failed 1996 presidential bid, said this week on "Fox News Sunday" he likely wouldn't have a place a today's Republican Party, saying the RNC should put up a "Closed for repair" sign while undergoing reforms, reports the Washington Times.
Spicer said Dole "clearly still does" have a place in the GOP, saying he hopes the former senator still considers himself a proud Republican.
But the spokesman said that as the GOP continues to broaden the party's base, and they will bring in people that don't necessarily think 100 percent the same way as everyone else.
