The Congress Party on Wednesday lashed out at the government for its contradicting statement on underworld don Dawood Ibrahim' s location and said that it sends a very wrong signal to the people of India.

"The changing pattern of communication of this government sends a very wrong signal to the people of India. A historic stand of the government had been that Dawood is in Pakistan, but today they are denying of any knowledge of his whereabouts," said Congress leader Rajeev Gowda.

Meanwhile, another party leader Pramod Tiwari accused the government of lying on the matter.

"This government is lying in the case of Dawood, he is not a normal criminal," he said.

Minister of State for Home Haribhai Parthibhai Chaudhary had yesterday informed the Parliament that Ibrahim's whereabouts are unknown and an extradition process can only be initiated after he is located, contradicting a statement given by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh who had assured that the government would take appropriate action to nab the mastermind of the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.
