Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Monday said the government has sought a report on the incident in which a 22-year-old boy from Assam was brutally beaten up by goons in the Amar colony area of the national capital.

Rijiju also said the government has taken the incident 'very seriously'.

"Every such issue is taken very seriously. Let the report on this matter come. We have raised the issue in the Parliament," Rijiju said.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police Commissioner B. S. Bassi said that the incident is being investigated and denied that it could be a case of racial discrimination.

"We are listening to both sides and examining on Assam boy issue. This is not necessarily a racial discrimination case," Bassi said.

Earlier, an Assamese student was brutally beaten up by the goons in New Delhi. The victim's family has claimed that it is a case of racial attack on the north east student who is undergoing treatment at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital after he suffered fractures in his limbs and jaw. Police is investigating the matter; however, no arrests have been made yet.
